How Meditation Can Benefit Your Sex Life

Who would have thought sex and meditation would have a connection? What we must understand is that meditation has a connection with just about every facet of life.

Sex is an art – not a chore, nor is it only something we do just for procreation – and as any artist goes within for inspiration and a connection with the true expression of self, so too must sexual expression be approached in the same way.

Embracing your partner with the sole intention of allowing him/her to know you intimately is what it’s all about. Is it not? An artist allows the world to know him/her intimately by sharing their innermost being, and any true artist will first go within to come to know their true self before expressing it. The one who views the artist’s painting or sculpture, or reads their writing, or listens to their music will then feel what the artist is expressing. The receiver interprets the energy signature that is being relayed from the art, therefore making the connection complete.

Sex is Spiritual in Nature

Energy is a spiritual currency. It is exchanged from one person and thing to the next all day long, therefore a sexual encounter with your partner should not at all be taken lightly. Who you choose to exchange your spiritual currency with is an extremely important decision to be made. The choice that is made here will determine your enjoyment, not due solely to the other person’s performance, but simply due to your ability to be tuned in to your own body’s sensuality.

According to a Psychology Today article Shameless Woman, ‘Why Meditation Supports a Better Sex Life’, fertility and sex educator, Pamela Madsen states that, “the best sex requires us to be fully in our bodies and alive to the possibilities of sensation and skin awareness …. arousal is a state that not only fuels our creative engines but can be enjoyed throughout our bodies.” To fuel this creative engine spoken of, we must clear out the clutter from our minds and silence the chatter. Meditation can play an extremely useful role in making that happen.

Slow down and become present. While meditating, we are always encouraged to slow down our mental processes to a point of stillness. Focusing on our breathing helps us to become more centered in a state of awareness. The more we practice the art of meditation the more aware we will be of ourselves and our surroundings each and every day. The more present one becomes through meditation the more present you will be during sex.

“From sex to tantra: a great revolution, a mutation is possible in man. And in the East, people became aware that if you become meditative while making love, the quality of sex changes and something new enters into it – it becomes tantric, it becomes prayerful, it becomes meditative…it becomes samadhi.” – Osho
